lemmings: (My fandom rides in style.)
Yesterday I rode to training in a very uncomfortable, yet stylish dress. I was not aware prior to dressing that the dress was inappropriate to ride in, let alone that the addition of heels would make it all the more challenging. I made it there in one piece and the bike didn't get stolen though I am not sure how high my skirt had to be. My achievement 1 for the day, Mark told me I looked very good in my little dress and heels. Win.

During the lunch break I took the bike to 78's for lunch and the comic book store where I bought cmics, hung out with Gianni and planned the following day. As I headed back to training my wheel grazed an uneven piece of footpath. The bike very nearly came out from under me but to my luck and as a result of what is clearly sheer skill, I stayed on, in tight dress and heels and then approached the edge of the curb, realising it did not decend to the road, a hallmark of bad design. I managed to turn and break without dying or falling off. Achievement number 2 of the day, did not stack despite inappropriate clothing and paths.

Made it back to training where I locked up my bike and straightened myself out. On of the people walking into the building looked at me back and forth about 4 times and then, realising that I had ridden in the clothes off my back, proclaimed "that's AWESOME" a a little too loudly, and looked immediately at his shoes when I noticed. Achievement number 3 of the day, compliments from strangers on the awesomeness of my skill/bike.

After training I headed back to the office to pick up Mark and dinner food. We had to go past the Foxtel lap thing, which is ridiculous, and there were a bunch of cheerleaders practicing right in the walkway with no regard for pedestrians, riders, ladies with prams or anyone else for that matter. Mark got off and took his bike around them on the stairs but I was enraged. My dress was uncomfortable and getting on and off is a pain, and anyway, what did they think they were going? Are their cheers more important than the people around them? Are they better than us? Us with our bikes and our prams and our full length clothing. I did not dismount or carry my bike with all it's loot upstairs. I sat upright and proud and rand my bell loudly, reminded them of where they were, and they departed my path appropriately. It was a good feelig. Achievement number 4 of the day, made cheerleaders move for me with the power of the bell. Amazing.

Apparently Frog's sister saw me riding around the city.

Today Gianni came over to show me his fixi in person. It's very very very good and makes me want to wear matching clothes and ride with him. The brakes squeak but you can see it as a warning mechanism and frankly, you can also see it's a labor of love. Mark had a go on it and didn't blow out his thong or die down a hill so that is a start. Apparently though, I found out about an accident he had a few years ago. More on that in a later entry. I need some further information. They sat around talking and looking at Fyxomatosis - I think it's called, I have no idea if that is how you spell it - I don't want to be quick to judge but I certainly don't see the appeal of the images that are taken. They don't do anything for me.

And speaking of pictures, I am going to upload a couple of Star Pin Ups soon. Eventually the final 3 of the week. These will however, not be included here because there is not enough space for me on the site under this profile and as it's the last weekend of the challenge there really is no point. You can eventually find them over on my Dreamwidth blof space which is closer to being ready.

In other news I have achieved my goal and ridden over 100KMs this cycling challenge which is great news for me. Still have another couple of potential rides over today and tomorrow so this will go up a little.

Hope the weekend is going well for everyone. Now I will go back to my duty in being a good host today for Mark's brother who is over from Melbourne. We are all headed to Freo tomorrow for the vintage market which should be fun.
