Pin Pal Picnic Post!
Sep. 6th, 2010 02:11 pmAhh, alliteration. Yes, we all love it. I thought about only using 'P' words in this blog post and then dismissed the idea very quickly. There IS such thing as too much of a good thing.
At any rate, this post is about yesterday's Pin Pal Picnic to kick start the cycling to work challenge. Given that is was a Sunday morning at 9am I was very close to not showing up; that is a ridiculous hour for a Sunday. A Sunday after a Friday and Saturday of late night and house cleaning... the cooking, the churning of the butter, the harvesting of the turnips. I was well within my rights not to go, but the weather was lovely, there was going to be good food and I should be a team player. Also, Deanne totally knows where I live and has no problem coming and yelling at me angrily. It doesn't matter if she's in a lady-like floral dress and a sun hat; she will end you. Apparently she has Angela's mothers phone number and knows how to sic other parties onto you. Resourceful when you are not the target of her wrath.
I thought I was going to be late, but I rolled up as Deanne started unloading her car of treats. That's the other thing you have to understand about our fearless leader, she puts on a good feed.
As it was fathers day, some of our illustrious team were tending to the needs of the men who raised them. Those of us who showed up could be construed as not caring for our male parents; this is not true, we simply don't have them or have worked our plans around them (note: none of the Pin Pals as I am aware do not have dads, that was a humourous joke for humourous purposes).
Deanne supplied Angela, Carmel and I with plenty of tasty treats, hand made quilts to sit upon and fantastic company. As we were not to race on the paths in the park (thank GOD, someone was surely going to get pushed into the lake) we satisfied ourselves with some cake and conversation.
It was great to see Angela and Carmel had both bought new bikes for the event, and lovely bikes they are. If we have achieved nothing else, we have certainly achieved enthusiasm and getting a couple of ladies riding which I think is fantastic.
We had a little glamour jaunt ride on the grass and the photos from the picnic can be found in my photo albums [Photos are not available to this blog for privacy purposes]. Deanne also trialed the first glamour sun helmet ever to be made by an amatuer.
I had booked tickets to Melbourne in the morning and having read the challenge as going til SEPT 17th was bummed I wasn't going to get to contribute (not that Melbourne would have stopped me contributing - I am going there for science - to see what the ladies cycle like there and to watch a race of the cycling variety in which my boyfriend and a number of his friends are participating... Deanne told me that it would be unethical of me to count his KMs which is sad. Can't I say he's an honourary member of the pinpals? I'd be riding in spirit), but it turns out I can, it's OCTOBER 17th that the challenge finishes. My bad.
Expect more ramblings and photos throughout that time. Seriously, why are they allowing me a space to inflict my thoughts on the world? I already do, but not for work purposes. This is hilarious.
Also, what is this rule about being able to count the KMs of those you take with you cycling? I am getting onto that! Kms doubled because of height, no gears and then because of boyfriend riding. I am liking this system.
Expect a post about today; the first day of the cycle to work challenge, but expect it tomorrow, because that is logical.
