On the weekend the bike proved useful. One Movement festival was on on the foreshore, so it meant that cycling was had on the weekend in style and also that I was introduced to the the true enemy of the cyclist; wind. I thought I knew about wind on a bike, it's hard and it's annoying. Oh no. I believe my KMs for the Saturday of riding should be tripled. I was being buffeted side ways, I couldn't take a hand off the handle bars, if I rode into the wind it was like riding under water. It was terrible. That aside, we made it in one piece, parked the bikes and saw Ben Kweller before heading up to the city, having dinner and going to see our friends band play. Good night. Sunday it was freezing and rained on and off all day. Soggy helmets is what I learned about on that day. It was pretty bad. And soggy. But the music was good and I worked up some more KMs.
Monday marked the beginning of my law man service. I still get more scared about parking my bike near government buildings than I do near an oval near a festival or outside a pub. Weird. Anyway, I can't talk about it all right now but it's very interesting and you should all want to know about it.
It's now my second day in, I have just done the gauntlet of a thousand sneezes for about the 7th time today, I have pondered my hate of spring and decided that I also hate the city when it's being ripped up and rennovated because all the dust hangs in the air, I have bought new shoes and I am getting ready to make dinner.
When I can breathe again I am sure I will have more to add.
Very quickly though, I will say, tomorrow is cycle to work day and I don't know if I will make it to any of the events, though I will ride to the law man. The law man is work right now. They didn't give me any prizes for my picture or blog in the prizes that went out recently, so I feel that any attempt to see vintage bikes and ride to the Glamour Push stall would be wasted currently for a number of reasons. Also, I have the opinion that my bike is cooler than the ones that I am going to see and for some reason in my sneezy miffed state I don't want to subject her to that. So I will ride, in style, but probably not to Council House.
Finally, my 2 Star Pin Ups for the week so far are sporting some corporate style gear in hommage to the law man week. Cate Blanchett cruising by with style and skill on a bike in converse chuck taylors, an awesome photo that I must also reference was posted on the Dreamwidth Bicyclette blog. I love it. Similarly the comic genius Simon Pegg is the other Pin Up in a grey suit and chuck taylors as well, but with a rather amusing bike! Enjoy
